The most popular luxury car maker in the world, BMW is set to launch a hybrid model in the Indian automobile market. This model is christened as BMW i8 , which comes with a combination of electric motor and a petrol engine. This vehicle together with both petrol and electric motor can deliver a mileage of 40 Kmpl, which is truly unbelievable. The car maker has designed this vehicle in a precise way where its front axle is driven by electric motor and the rear axle is fitted with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that accelerates the vehicle towards 100 Kmph mark in just 4.4 seconds.

This luxury vehicle comes with a combination of an electric motor and a twinpower turbo petrol engine. It takes more than two hours for lithium battery to get fully charged, which enables the vehicle to produce a mileage in the range of 25 to 35 kilometers. On the other hand, its also comes with a 1500cc, 3-cylinder petrol motor that works in combination with the electric motor and produces a mileage of about 40 Kmpl, which is quite impressive . This vehicle comes with a maximum mileage range of 500 kilometers (combined range).

The front is dominated by a colourful and rather flat twin kidney grille, it gets an oblong-shaped full LED headlights and a strange looking bumper that has aerodynamically enhanced wings just below the headlamps. The wind shield is raked sharply and further adds to the low look of the car.

The i8 gets the standard BMW interiors with a few space age touches like the digital gauges and what appears to be a 10-inch display to interact with the iDrive system. The 2-seater car has been trimmed out in a combination of leather, chrome plastics for the centre console and high quality plastics for the rest of the cabin.

This is where the i8 comes alive. It is powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder twin scroll turbo engine that produces 231bhp and 320Nm of torque and power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed AT. The front wheels are connected to an electric motor via a two-stage AT box. This motor produces the equivalent of 131bhp and is mated to a 5kWh lithium-ion battery.

As said above, this luxury sedan comes with a combination of electric and twinturbo petrol motor. Its electric motor comes with a gross capacity of 7.1 kWh that develops amaximum power of 128bhp and churns out a maximum torque of 250Nm, which is quite impressive . This vehicle is also comes fitted with a 1.5-litre petrol motor on its rear axle that develops a commanding power of 231bhp that results in a peak torque of 320Nm, which is remarkable. The combination of both electric and petrol power plant delivers a maximum power output of 362bhp, which certainly explains about the technology of BMW.

This vehicle is expected to come with superior ventilated disc brakes that will be further accompanied with superior brake calipers. This disc braking mechanism will be enhanced by the anti lock braking system, cornering brake control system, brake assist, brake standby and several other advanced programs. On the other hand, this luxury sports car come with a sophisticated chassis technology with dynamic damper control system featuring double-wishbone front axle and a five link rear axle, which can deal with all the jerks caused on roads. This model will also feature an electric power steering system which offers a precise response whether in the city or on highways.

Market experts believe that the company will launch this sophisticated hybrid sports car with a trendy set of 20-inch light alloy wheels . Its front rims are expected to be covered with a set of 195/50 R20 sized tubeless radial tyres, while its rear rims could get 215/45 R20 sized tyres.

We expect that BMW will price the i8 in the range of Rs 1.5 crore to Rs 2.2 crore when it is launched in India. There is no competition for such a vehicle in the Indian market and BMW will be the first one to launch such a car.
